Localuri cool: Clärchens Ballhaus

Încă de la deschiderea sa pe 13 septembrie 1913, localul de pe Auguststraße din Mitte, a fost pentru berlinezi un spațiu unde puteau uita de grijile cotidiene, un spațiu destinat relaxării și distracției. La 100 ani distanță, clubul Clärchens Ballhaus își păstrează farmecul nealterat, câștigând tot mai mulți clienți fideli, fie că vorbim despre nopțile de dans de la sfârșit de săptămână, concertele de muzică clasică, cursurile de dansuri latine, grădina de vară sau restaurantul cu preparate din bucătăriile germană și italiană.

Localul are, la fel ca Berlinul, o istorie foarte interesantă în spate. Inițial acesta se numea Bühlers Ballroom, după numele fondatorului său, Fritz Bühler, care a murit în Marelui Război, lăsând-o la cârma afacerii pe soția sa, Clara.

Din “relele” transportului public berlinez

Ador transportul public din Berlin, asta o ştiţi deja din articolul acesta în care îl lăudam cu spor. Fie că e vorba de Sbahn, Ubahn, tramvaie şi (hai, treacă de la mine, cu toate că m-a lăsat baltă de câteva ori când mi-era lumea mai dragă) autobuze, toate merg ceas acolo, atâta timp cât termenul nostru de comparaţie este RATB-ul.

Desigur, nimeni nu este perfect, iar cum berlinezii nu se raportează la România când li se pare că această stare nu este atinsă. Iată ce povesteşte Andrei Pleşu într-un articol recent din Dilema Veche despre motivele de indignare ale locuitorilor din Berlin vis-a-vis de BVG:

“La Berlin, lumea e foarte supărată. Instituţia care se ocupă de mijloacele de transport în comun ale oraşului a constatat că fiecare al şaselea autobuz şi cam fiecare al unsprezecelea tramvai ajung în staţie cu întîrziere.

A locui într-un oraș fără câini maidanezi

Două subiecte sunt dis(p)cutate aprig în această săptămână în România: protestele împotriva proiectului de exploatare de la Roșia Montană și problema câinilor fără stăpân, în special a celor din București. Internetul, presa și, bănuiesc (nu mă pot pronunța pentru că am așa ceva acasă), televiziunile prezintă de zor aceste două teme arzătoare complet diferite, legate însă de o trăsătură de bază a țării noastre: corupția, o corupție care există la toate nivelurile sociale, politice, administrative, la care toți suntem părtași mai mult sau mai puțin activ.

Nu vreau să intru în detalii politice, să arăt cu degetul sau să propun soluții în rezolvarea problemei câinilor comunitari din mai multe motive:

Turist în propriul oraș

Fiecare oraș are povestea lui. Cu cât povestea e mai lungă cu atât ea devine mai interesantă și mai complicată. Cu cât firul poveștii se lasă mai greu descâlcit, cu atât imaginația este mai solicitată iar impactul (fie el pozitiv sau, din contră, negativ) este mai mare. De pildă, un oraș ca Londra își fascinează  turiștii prin faptul că păstrează în multe locuri un aspect aproape nealterat din urmă cu 1-2 secole, pe când Bucureștiul șochează prin desconsiderarea vechilor clădiri. În orice caz, din punctul meu de vedere actual, ambele orașe sunt la fel de interesante datorită multitudinii de locuri de vizitat sau de descoperit.

Cum am ajuns la această concluzie probabil stupidă pentru unii? Locuind pe rând în București, Berlin și Londra.

Unul din motivele pentru care am ales să plec la studii a fost pentru a scăpa de București, care îmi părea cel mai jegos și gălăgios oraș din Europa.

Today is November 9, a day of great significance in German history that marked both glorious events as well as dark moments. I will talk about the most recent event that marked the history of Germany and led to the reunification of this state: the fall of the Berlin Wall.

23 years ago on this very day something that many people living in the GDR or in other communist countries thought would never happen: the wall that for 28 years brutally separated families, friends, neighbours, colleagues in Berlin was opened, a move that resulted in its almost complete destruction within a few short months.

S-a mai dus un mit

De-a lungul anilor, in urma experientelor traite (desi poate nu sunt chiar atat de numeroase pentru a trage o concluzie clara) am ajuns sa imi fauresc propriile reguli sau mituri despre mersul anumitor lucruri din jur. Bine, probabil nu imi sunt creatii in totalitate, ci de multe ori preluari sau adaptari.

There is always plenty to see and do in Berlin that you won’t ever read about in a guidebook. From coffee shops in Kreuzberg to music in Mitte, you must be walking blindfolded if you leave the city bored.

One popular way to spend an afternoon – that doesn’t appear in every guide book – is shopping in Berlin ’s Friedrichshain area in the east of the city. Locals will, of course, view this as nothing unusual or out of the ordinary – in fact browsing the little boutiques that line the area’s streets might even be seen as a cliché by some Berliners.

Food and water fight at Oberbaumbrücke Berlin

Remember those fights with water guns or water balloons you used to love having when you were young? Many of us probably still enjoy them now and seek any relatively sane occasion to feel like a kid again. Exactly for this reason, in major cities around the world there are similar events organized. However, in several instances there isn’t only water involved, making the urban fights more unexpected and entertaining.

One of the biggest events of this sort is the fight which takes place at the end of summer near the Oberbaumbrücke in Berlin.

The nice people of Berlin

There are diverging opinions on this topic. Most Berliners or Germans I have talked to so far have declared themselves quite appalled by the behavior of Berlin’s inhabitants. They found them either rude, paranoid or careless. Similar to the stories going round about the Paris underground system,I have even been advised not to make eye contact with people on the S-or-U-bahn, because they might go crazy on me thinking I have something against them. Others have said they felt that people here rarely smile or are polite.

On the other hand, most other people from outside of Germany –myself included – have discovered the exact opposite.
